Much more than I expected! By Corey H. Perez Where to start ...
Well I'll open with .. I'm impressed! I opted to get the white version FI8918W only because it was cheaper than the black version and was identical other than color. I was the first concern that has two chambers and the first was "loose" apparently (the chamber of the base). The second appears to be identical so this should be just the way these are from the camera. I got this directly to my router as instructed and tried to determine a standard IP address without using the included software. I could not then be used for mini-disc into my PC with Windows 7. The team asked to restart the system and I did before I realized the icon on the desktop. When restarting I double click the icon and after a short time shows the IP address of the camera. Note: I am also using zone alarm and requested access to 255.255.255.255:10000, which allows the camera and it shows.
Double-click the IP address listed in the program window, took me to say that after I put in the user ID: admin and PW. I do not know if I'm lucky because I have had many lessons with my IP cameras, but this was very easy (outside trying to figure out why the wireless settings did not work as expected). One of the things that impressed me was the ease of setting up the wireless network. I "scanned" for wireless sources, which is mine, click on it and almost all fields are filled. I only had to input my security key. Now ... The issue I had. I am currently running 4 different cameras, different x2 Linksys and TRENDnet camera one. All those who maintain the configuration of your IP address. This Foscam uses a different one. So after I recommend setting have to rerun the IP software and the search for the new IP address after you have removed the CAT5 cable. It took me about an hour to figure out.
My bottom chamber:
Linksys WVC54GCA I started with x2. These were my foundation for learning about IP camera, the work of the router to open ports and multiple camera mostly on the same router and how. After spending 48 to Alaska, we wanted a pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) and opted for the Linksys WVC210. This camera is a great unit, but after receiving the new Foscam night PTZ camera, I feel like I lost a significant amount of money in the unit one, when I think FI8918W Foscam is easily the best buy. We also have the Trendnet TV-IP422W and compared with this new camera Foscam, the video is quite unsatisfactory for Foscam.
While this is a comment on Foscam FI8918W want readers to know and appreciate what this camera does. The Linksys WVC54GCA works fine in IE and Firefox (Safari too). The WVC210 NOT, repeat NOT work with IE. There is an Active X is required and Cisco should have a problem with Microsoft or something because I can not force my computer to accept the Active XYou can only see this in Fire Fox (FF) or Safari (if I remember correctly), FF, but that's what we use to view it. These works Foscam in: IE8, FF and FF on Mac OS-X (Snow Leopard). I have not tried Safari, but our needs were met in this area. The mobile navigation, two of the Linksys camera were visible in our iPhone / iPod Touch. We settled the iPhone (scrap) and went with the Samsung Captivate (Android) and had the same experience. Trendnet units and Foscam can not see in any of our phones. This was a great initial problem, but I found that both the iTunes App Store and Android is an application (Android has a free version, Apple does not) called "IP Cam Viewer", by Robert Chou (Android lite version works for free and has a banner at the top). If you use this program to use "Add IP" in the settings to add DNS address set and go from there. This application also allows you to "blow to the pan" option .. BEAUTIFUL!
In creation, I said that I have several of the camera. I have resorted to the use of several different ports, such as myipcam, period, com: 1111 and the next is myipcam, dot, com, 1112, and: myipcam, dot, com, 1113, and so set this in your individual settings camera and the settings of your router.
Above all.
I know that my setup is based on the historical setting that I have done with another camera, so I was aware of some of the pitfalls. But I think these cameras are the easiest to configure. Camera software / firmware is a bit "cheesy" and I think can be improved, but has everything you need to have (which may determine), so I can not fault the firmware (admin) Settings / Options that. The current web interface (interface) was quite nice, especially compared to other camera I have. I did not try multiple settings and access them via the Internet, because one of the two cameras that we have received will remain a bit more "private" and can be accessed from our bedroom of their location.
The camera is very quiet. I found myself enjoying it with the options of movement can hold down the arrow (on screen) and move the camera until you uncheck.
The status LED, which can be turned off, is in the back. I realize that too.
The only thing I found slightly annoying was the infrared bulbs are a little too visible. We have one of these in the boys' dormitory and the red glow (obviously) always attracts attention. This is visible even when the IR is "off" in the configuration.
The package includes everything a normal user I require / desire. House, the base (mobile / adjustable which is a nice touch), antenna, screws and anchoring, CAT5 cable and power cord.
In the audio, I try / use of the option included. I regret that a review of that function can not be included. With the amount of camera you are running can not support the requirements of additional bandwidth.
The only problem I experienced was the radio that a different IP address against the IP address per cable. I have never experienced this before, but it was a simple solution using the supplied software.
In closing:
I wish I could provide a link for others to see how amazing these are the CAM. But I do not; ) If I had known how great is the value of these cameras I would have bought at least a couple more, with the possibility of enough to replace / complement our Linksys / CAM Trendnet. I'm going to a military deployment in one year 10 days for ease of installation / configuration was a great help and success of this company. At this point I have no problem recommending these to anyone who is looking for an excellent camera. The picture during the day is excellent, night vision (as in all) is less great, but the infrared bulbs illuminate the room full of our 12x35 "with lots of light to spare. This chamber is used in Win XP (laptop), Windows Vista (laptop), Win 7 (PC) (both IE 8 and Fire Fox) and Mac OS-X (Snow Leopard) on a MacBook Pro and iMac, iPod Touch and Samsung Captivate (Android) when using the application: Robert Chou IPCam viewer (free on Android). I really hope that this review helps some other potential buyers as it had a lot of questions, to which few (if any) were answered by other comments.
