Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

Well I'll open with .. I'm impressed! I opted to get the white version FI8918W only because it was cheaper than the black version and was identical other than color. I was the first concern that has two chambers and the first was "loose" apparently (the chamber of the base). The second appears to be identical so this should be just the way these are from the camera. I got this directly to my router as instructed and tried to determine a standard IP address without using the included software. I could not then be used for mini-disc into my PC with Windows 7. The team asked to restart the system and I did before I realized the icon on the desktop. When restarting I double click the icon and after a short time shows the IP address of the camera. Note: I am also using zone alarm and requested access to 255.255.255.255:10000, which allows the camera and it shows.

Double-click the IP address listed in the program window, took me to say that after I put in the user ID: admin and PW. I do not know if I'm lucky because I have had many lessons with my IP cameras, but this was very easy (outside trying to figure out why the wireless settings did not work as expected). One of the things that impressed me was the ease of setting up the wireless network. I "scanned" for wireless sources, which is mine, click on it and almost all fields are filled. I only had to input my security key. Now ... The issue I had. I am currently running 4 different cameras, different x2 Linksys and TRENDnet camera one. All those who maintain the configuration of your IP address. This Foscam uses a different one. So after I recommend setting have to rerun the IP software and the search for the new IP address after you have removed the CAT5 cable. It took me about an hour to figure out.

My bottom chamber:

Linksys WVC54GCA I started with x2. These were my foundation for learning about IP camera, the work of the router to open ports and multiple camera mostly on the same router and how. After spending 48 to Alaska, we wanted a pan, tilt and zoom (PTZ) and opted for the Linksys WVC210. This camera is a great unit, but after receiving the new Foscam night PTZ camera, I feel like I lost a significant amount of money in the unit one, when I think FI8918W Foscam is easily the best buy. We also have the Trendnet TV-IP422W and compared with this new camera Foscam, the video is quite unsatisfactory for Foscam.

While this is a comment on Foscam FI8918W want readers to know and appreciate what this camera does. The Linksys WVC54GCA works fine in IE and Firefox (Safari too). The WVC210 NOT, repeat NOT work with IE. There is an Active X is required and Cisco should have a problem with Microsoft or something because I can not force my computer to accept the Active XYou can only see this in Fire Fox (FF) or Safari (if I remember correctly), FF, but that's what we use to view it. These works Foscam in: IE8, FF and FF on Mac OS-X (Snow Leopard). I have not tried Safari, but our needs were met in this area. The mobile navigation, two of the Linksys camera were visible in our iPhone / iPod Touch. We settled the iPhone (scrap) and went with the Samsung Captivate (Android) and had the same experience. Trendnet units and Foscam can not see in any of our phones. This was a great initial problem, but I found that both the iTunes App Store and Android is an application (Android has a free version, Apple does not) called "IP Cam Viewer", by Robert Chou (Android lite version works for free and has a banner at the top). If you use this program to use "Add IP" in the settings to add DNS address set and go from there. This application also allows you to "blow to the pan" option .. BEAUTIFUL!

In creation, I said that I have several of the camera. I have resorted to the use of several different ports, such as myipcam, period, com: 1111 and the next is myipcam, dot, com, 1112, and: myipcam, dot, com, 1113, and so set this in your individual settings camera and the settings of your router.

Above all.

I know that my setup is based on the historical setting that I have done with another camera, so I was aware of some of the pitfalls. But I think these cameras are the easiest to configure. Camera software / firmware is a bit "cheesy" and I think can be improved, but has everything you need to have (which may determine), so I can not fault the firmware (admin) Settings / Options that. The current web interface (interface) was quite nice, especially compared to other camera I have. I did not try multiple settings and access them via the Internet, because one of the two cameras that we have received will remain a bit more "private" and can be accessed from our bedroom of their location.

The camera is very quiet. I found myself enjoying it with the options of movement can hold down the arrow (on screen) and move the camera until you uncheck.

The status LED, which can be turned off, is in the back. I realize that too.

The only thing I found slightly annoying was the infrared bulbs are a little too visible. We have one of these in the boys' dormitory and the red glow (obviously) always attracts attention. This is visible even when the IR is "off" in the configuration.

The package includes everything a normal user I require / desire. House, the base (mobile / adjustable which is a nice touch), antenna, screws and anchoring, CAT5 cable and power cord.

In the audio, I try / use of the option included. I regret that a review of that function can not be included. With the amount of camera you are running can not support the requirements of additional bandwidth.

The only problem I experienced was the radio that a different IP address against the IP address per cable. I have never experienced this before, but it was a simple solution using the supplied software.

In closing:

I wish I could provide a link for others to see how amazing these are the CAM. But I do not; ) If I had known how great is the value of these cameras I would have bought at least a couple more, with the possibility of enough to replace / complement our Linksys / CAM Trendnet. I'm going to a military deployment in one year 10 days for ease of installation / configuration was a great help and success of this company. At this point I have no problem recommending these to anyone who is looking for an excellent camera. The picture during the day is excellent, night vision (as in all) is less great, but the infrared bulbs illuminate the room full of our 12x35 "with lots of light to spare. This chamber is used in Win XP (laptop), Windows Vista (laptop), Win 7 (PC) (both IE 8 and Fire Fox) and Mac OS-X (Snow Leopard) on a MacBook Pro and iMac, iPod Touch and Samsung Captivate (Android) when using the application: Robert Chou IPCam viewer (free on Android). I really hope that this review helps some other potential buyers as it had a lot of questions, to which few (if any) were answered by other comments.

Sean Webb Here's the scoop: I'm more interested to read the wide range of ratings on this camera, seeing that he had some opinions to get a star, so I was totally ready to return to this puppy, if not lived up to my very high standards.

That said, here is my experience:

I have a Linksys Wireless N dual band router running on a single level ranch about 50 meters from some high voltage lines very seriously. The network is a Power Mac connected via Ethernet cable, and 3 laptops (one PC, an old Macbook and Macbook Pro new) via wireless. Off topic, I'm not impressed with the range on the Linksys router, but it offers some of bandwidth very fast in the home with two networks to connect to, so live with it.

I unpacked the WVC80N, which came with an ethernet cable, CD, and some instructions / manual. I followed the instructions to the letter, which instructed me to put the CD into a computer. I put on the Power Mac The CD works well and opened a configuration guide. The installation guide told me what to do ... was found that the wireless devices on the network, then told me to connect the Ethernet cable into the camera ... I clicked 'next', then the router ... 'Next', then connect power to the camera ... 'Next', and make ... 'Next' ... it detected the camera via ethernet cable, no problems, and continued to take me through the start-up ... I had to create a user name and password for the camera, etc, something amazing happened. I used to be very technical, but I do not like to mess with having to find a way to make something work ... I like to work. So to my surprise, when I clicked "next" on this occasion, all the advanced settings that allow the camera to be viewed through Internet (through secure and password) is done automatically for me while I looked. No port mapping. No set-up WPA. No problem! Awesome!

Then I took the TZO set-up (free for 90 days) for the service to be able to look at the camera from anywhere on the Internet at any time. To explain the technical aspect of this technology to people who do not: If you have a normal service cable or DSL Internet, you get what is called a "dynamic IP address" assigned to you from your cable company. This IP address is a number that allows other computers to be able to find your computer when you ask to see something (like pulling down video of [...] or to obtain search results from Google - it is a " send the video to this address "type of thing). However, a dynamic IP address may change each time the power goes out or restart your modem. The ISP gives you another of those that have out there. So where your IP address could have been home yesterday 123,456,789,123, 123,456,789,456 could be today. So when you are out of the Internet in search of camera view, you need to know your IP address for your home at the time. Enter TZO. TZO is a service of IP allocation that has the camera sends a message to say "here I am." Then type the IP address TZO (automatically) for the day and gives an address on your site to log in ([...]), then sent home and your camera. The service costs $ 25 a year, or discounted for several years. NOTE: You do not have to have this service if you have a static IP address or IP address can be determined dynamically without.

So I TZO domain (and probably will have to pay the $ 25 because you have to show the family what is happening in the nursery of a new baby ... and it's a simple web address for grandparents can score . FYI, the camera allows you to configure user accounts and passwords for different users.), and this is where another magical thing happened. I clicked on "video show" ... and it just worked. The Internet address ... Only worked. Unbelievable. So now I started to play and try to see what are the limitations of this device are:

First, there were two family members visit at the same time to see the response of frame rate. He worked in almost 30 frames per second for three simultaneous users at a maximum resolution of 640x480. Cool. So let's play with the settings:

The camera is a smart device, and if you've ever seen the configuration of your router menu after logging into your wireless router ... is the same type of interface in the camera here. You can change basic settings such as dynamic IP address or specific, saying that whether or not to turn the LED on / off at the front of the camera, etc ... can change the image settings to med large or small resolution, set frame rate, etc. .. You can add or delete user accounts and passwords (add: password grandmother's grandmother grandson to use when you click the web address of the camera), and can change the settings of automatic motion detection, timed automatic registration, etc. The camera can send an email with pictures fixed or short video clips of 5 seconds each time it detects a change in the environment of the camera (if you want - fully customizable), and works well if you set the outgoing SMTP server (google this).

My experience with the response of the network at home with the camera: I've seen complaints about the camera interferes with the performance of other computers in the house, bogging down the network, so I tested this camera in two ways: 1) I put everything on one side of the dual-band router (simulation than it would be like a normal wireless router), then 2) put the camera on one side of the router, and everything else on the other. For your information, we canceled cable / satellite as soon as Hulu began to put good material online, and use podcasts as our sources of entertainment. As it can be a pig [...] bandwidth (streaming high-resolution digital video often), I shot at Hulu, set the camera for the maximum resolution and frame rate, and did some tests.

First, if no one is looking at the camera, or is not sending an email that tells you about the movement, which does not affect bandwidth at all.

When looking at the camera power, the operation of the camera with nothing more at stake in the network is large. Comes through 640x480 30 fps mostly 1 / 2 second or less delay. When you turn the camera, while Hulu is running (on the same channel) is when you can start to see a difference. Both the camera and had a little Hulu. Which usually do not have to wait for Hulu to cushion, cushion stopped once while the camera was on the same side of the router, but above all ... was still good. The camera comes running at 10fps, and I was watching a Hulu. I was impressed. WARNING: When I motion detection and entered the room so we could force the camera to shoot a "motion detected" e-mail ... both Hulu and the land of the camera to an end. I guess this is because the camera was the creation of attachments media and e-mail address.

So I put the camera on the other side of the capacity of dual-band router, giving you a little privacy of bandwidth. The camera worked very well. Hulu worked very well. I could not even see then at the same time on two different windows. When Hulu is a video, the frame rate drops a bit camera (20 frames per second?), And increases the length of time at a second or so. But when you're not streaming digital video over the Internet or downloading a torrent, which is a first class camera that works very well. I would recommend the dual-band router but if you want to have fewer problems with bandwidth.

Image Quality: It is not HD, but it's not bad. Digital artifacts do not exist in adequate lighting, and if the light is nonexistent in the room at all (a night light), the low light level operation is outstanding. The camera will turn off if there is no light present. It is an infrared camera has no infrared light, and not take anything when I noticed some infrared lights in the room. But breaking the door with the hall light on, and you can see. If you want to be able to check in cats during the day, or see the grandparents while feed / change / play with the baby, this is a great camera for that. The color is good. The clarity is good. I can even watch it on my iPhone. Have to see what the rest of the market has to offer, and how high or low, as Linksys has become today, I have to give this camera 4.5 stars.

Bell & Howell DNV900 HD 1080p High Definition Zoom Touch Digital Video Camcorder with Infrared Night Vision + 8GB Card + Battery + Case + Tripod + Accessory Kit Review

July 7 people found the following review helpful. 5 You get what you pay By Steph I think some people do not realize that an infrared camera can cost thousands of dollars. For $ 200 you get a video camera has infrared night vision real (not cheap, shot misleading night). You can see about 2 feet in front of you, which is very good. As I said before, if you expect your video cameras to be like the TV, expects to spend thousands of dollars. Not to mention you get all kinds of extra material. I am very happy with my video camera. It is compact and easy to use.
